The long road here — and why it was worth it

My name is Rafael Hazembuller, or Dr. Rafa to my patients, and my path to dentistry is not exactly a straight line. I grew up in Las Heras, a small oil town in the Argentine Patagonia, where the wind never stops and the options were limited. My parents believed differently. They pushed my siblings and me to study hard, dream bigger, and get out — and so I did, eventually making my way to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where I earned a degree in Economics. It wasn't until my final semester at BYU that a pre-dental classmate introduced me to dentistry as a career, and something clicked. Dentistry is about people (my favorite thing in the world) and smiles, my close second. Smiles are the conduit of joy.

It took me another decade to act on it. I spent the better part of 13 years in finance before the financial crisis of 2008 gave me the push I needed to finally pursue dentistry. What followed was 12½ years of combined academic pursuit, post-baccalaureate studies at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and a DMD from Roseman University of Health Sciences in South Jordan, Utah. It was worth every single second. That journey led me here, to the intersection of Georgetown, Liberty Hill, and Leander, where I built My Favorite Dentist from the ground up, for this community, from scratch.
